When Brian Johnson started selling direct mail from the basement of his home in 2008, he couldn’t have foreseen the level of success his company would achieve – or the rate at which they would achieve it. Over the past decade, they’ve served over 6,000 clients, printed over 350 million mail pieces, and have made the Inc. 5000 list of fastest growing companies for the past 6 years.
How has this growth impacted Mail Shark’s customers?
In 2008, Mail Shark had just 2 employees – Brian and his sister. Now, they employ close to 90 people, growing their sales and support staff so their customers always have a dedicated team to take care of their needs.
In 2012, Mail Shark hired a team of printing experts and brought printing in-house. This allowed them to lower costs and develop a variety of new products. They started with 3 products in 2008 – a Standard Menu, Original Postcard Magnet, and Oversized Postcard – and now offer 15 products with more in development.
In 2017, Mail Shark brought on a marketing team to develop a stronger brand and provide a better experience for their customers online. Mail Shark has been an expert in direct mail for a decade and is working to put that expertise into blogs, guides, and articles that can help their customers improve their direct mail campaigns.
In a speech at their anniversary celebration, Johnson thanked each employee for their role in Mail Shark’s success, saying, “The number one thing people love about this company is the people, and I couldn’t agree more. There’s so much talent, so many skills, so much dedication and passion that all of you bring to the table every day.”
He also spoke about what to expect from Mail Shark in the coming years. “I know there’s going to be land, a building, more employees, more products, and a lot of new, great things that are coming our way. But what’s probably more important is that we’re going to have a lot of fun. It’s going to be very rewarding, and it’s going to be very challenging.”
With plans for another building expansion, further additions to the product lineup, and a focus on improving the company’s online presence, Mail Shark is poised for success in the next 10 years and beyond.
